The captain looked down at his desk and noticed one of his maps had been recently drawn on. He picked it up and examined it.
'Those weren't there before
' He thought looking up at you.
"Are you a cartographer per chance miss (name)?" he asked. You looked at him in surprise.
"No, why?" you asked with a cocked eyebrow. He held up the map in his hand.
"Then what is the meaning of drawing all over my maps, love?" he asked, gesturing to the map. You walked closer to him to get a better look at it.
"Oh, that map?" you asked, pointing innocently at it with one finger
"Well someone forgot to add the Florida key's to it, so I added them for ya." You said smiling. He furrowed his big eyebrows together.
keys?" he asked, CLEARLY not understanding.
"Yeah! The Florida keys! Those little trail of islands coming off the southern tip of Florida." You said pointing to the map. He put the map down and looked at you, his green eyes seeming unsure about you yet curious at the same time.
"What islands? I've never seen any islands and I assure you love I am well traveled." he stated. You gave him a smug smile.
"Looks like I've been somewhere you haven't." you said in a sing song voice. "Anyways, your welcome." you said, regardless if he was thankful or not. He gave you a short laugh.
"How would you know if there are islands there or not, love?" he asked. You, not even thinking, answered truthfully.
"Oh I've been there before. it's a nice place to visit." you said before realizing what you had just said.
'Crap! Why did I say that!?!' you thought, mentally kicking yourself. You wondered how long it would take until he started asking you questions like "Where are you from?". As soon as that question came to mind
"So. Where are you from, love?" Captain Kirkland asked, putting emphasis on the word 'are'.
'I knew he would ask that' you thought. You backed up a bit from his desk.
"Why do you ask? For all you know I could have been a local." you said. He chuckled a bit, obviously not believing you.
"I know for a fact that you are not a local. You don't look, talk or act like anyone I've ever met around here or anywhere else before." he said, a twinkle in his eye, knowing you were trying to hide something.
"Your clothing for example." he began, looking at what you were wearing
"I've never seen clothing of that sort before, especially not on a woman." You were wearing a red sweatshirt, light blue faded jeans, a (favorite color) long sleeve shirt and black airwalk shoes. You had gold hoop earrings on and a necklace that your oldest brother had bought you a few years ago. You always wore it, it reminded you of him. You shrugged your shoulders.
"This is just what we wear where I'm from." you stated matter-of-factly. He leaned forward, resting his chin on his hands.
"And where is that exactly?" he asked. He had you trapped, or did he? No, you were to quick for him.
"You sure like to ask a lot of questions mister. Well, where are 'you' from?" you said, sticking the question right back at him.
'Good one (name), score one for me!' you thought to yourself. He smirked.
"I asked you first, love." he said in return. 'Crap...' you thought.
"I, uh. I'm from out of town! WAY out of town. I'm sure you've never heard of it." you said hoping that would shut him up. But no, of course not. That would be too easy!
"Try me." he said, that same smug expression stuck on his features.
This situation you were in was getting, shall we say, awkward for you? You could hold your own, no doubt about it. But still, it was weird being in a room with a guy who was asking you all these questions. Not to mention he was practically 300 years older then you. The awkward silence was then broken by a knock on the door. Captain Kirkland looked at the door behind you.
"Hmm? Who is it?" he called.
"Its me you wanker!" said a voice that sounded like a little boy. You giggled as the captain had an annoyed look on his face. He sighed heavily before getting up and walking over to the door.
"This had better be important!" he said to whoever was on the other side of the door. He unlocked it to reveal a boy with blond hair, blue eyes and a blue and white sailors outfit. He looked about 12.
'He kind of looks like the captain...' you thought.
"What do you want Peter?" he said, sounding exhausted already.
"I came to see if-" he stopped when he saw you standing in the middle of the room.
"-Oh! Is this the one who came aboard when no one was looking? You didn't tell me it was a lady. She's pretty!." Kirkland sighed, you giggled.
"Hi, I'm (name). Nice to meet you hun." you said to him. He blushed a bit.
"H-Hello! I'm Peter. I'm twelve years old. I think your real pretty miss. Is my brother courting you yet?" he asked, causing Arthur's cheeks to heat up a bit.
"No you git, now get out of here!" he said, clearly trying to sweep over Peters last statement.
"But I came here to tell you your needed up on deck!" he said before Arthur could push him out of the room. Arthur sighed again, not enjoying himself at the moment. You, however, were enjoying seeing the captain getting flustered.
'I'm going to see how far I can take this guy before he goes over the edge' you thought, a sinister grin plastered on your face but you quickly removed it when the captain turned to you.
"Come with me." he said before grabbing onto your left wrist. He practically grabbed onto your bracelet, your only ticket home.
"What's this?" he asked, pulling your sweatshirt sleeve up revealing the bracelet. He looked at it for a moment. You prayed that he would think nothing of it.
"Hmmm, interesting choice in jewelry you have my dear." was all he said. You mentally breathed a sigh of relief.
He led you to the door on the other side of the hallway, with Peter right behind. When he opened the door you squinted your eyes a bit. The sun was bright, even though it was getting close to dusk. You took a moment to adjust your eyes. The captain looked over at you.
"So, I'll ask you again. Care to be my personal servant?" he asked, hoping for a different response from last time. You just looked at him.
"Are you kidding me?" you said. He frowned, clearly displeased.
"Well, its either that or work among the crew..." he said motioning toward the men bustling around the boat. They all looked sweaty, dirty and mean. Some of them giving you strange looks. But if they were anything like Ian and that other guy, you could take care of yourself no problem.
"I'm good working with the crew." you said looking up at him and giving him a big toothy grin. He sighed and placed his hat back on his head.
"Very well then." he said standing up tall, resting his hand on the hilt of his sword. "Then you shall begin your duties tomorrow. In the mean time Peter shall show you around the ship to acquaint you with it." You nodded. And turned to Peter who was now at your side. You smiled at him and rested your hands on your hips.
"So little guy, ready to be my guide?" you asked. He nodded and smiled with a blush forming on his cheeks. Arthur quickly turned to him.
"Now Peter, show miss (name) around and let her know of her duties. Also, don't get into any trouble, and don't bother miss (name) either." he said sternly. Peter crossed his arms.
"Don't worry about me you wanker, just don't steer us into a cliff!" he retorted. Arthur reached over, took Peters hat off and ruffled his hair.
"Hey! Stop that!" Peter said waving the captains hand away. Arthur laughed and plopped Peters hat crookedly back on his head.
"Well, I'll let you two be now." he said giving you a smile and turning to leave. But you stopped him with a question you had.
"Hang on a second." you said. He stopped and turned to you.
"Yes? What is it?" he asked.
"What's the name of this ship anyways?" you asked. Hey, if you were going to be stuck here for a while you at least wanted to know the name of it. He smiled at you.
"Forgive me, how rude of me. Welcome aboard the Phantom Night, where the impossible becomes possible." he said tipping his hat a bit and leaving to the upper deck. You had to stop yourself from laughing at his theatrics.
'Phantom Night, huh? Not a bad name' you thought. Suddenly someone grabbed onto your hand. You looked down and saw Peter. You didn't realize this at first, but Peter was almost as tall as you, so you didn't have to look down to far.
"Come with me miss (name). I will show you around!" he said leading the way.
"This here is the main deck, this is where most of the men work. You'll be mopping the deck in the morning." You looked around and saw a bunch of the men doing various tasks, they would stop for a moment to look at you and turn their heads quickly. You giggled a bit to yourself.
'Isn't that precious' you thought. You had to admit, it was pretty funny. A bunch of tough pirates getting slightly nervous around you. Although you didn't know why. Peter continued to lead you.
"This is the mast." he said "If you climb all the way up you will reach the crow's nest, but I wouldn't suggest you climbing up though. Its quite dangerous for a lady to be doing such a thing."
'He obviously didn't see me earlier' you thought to yourself.
"Don't worry about me bro, I'll be careful." you said smiling at him. He smiled back. Suddenly there was a big gust of wind, it blew right in your face blowing your hood off your head causing your hair to trail behind you. You shielded your face with your hand while closing your eyes. When you opened your eyes again you were surprised to find every eye on you, even Peter.
'What are they all staring at?' you thought to yourself. The captain noticed that all his men had stopped working momentarily. He looked over to see what they were looking at. You.
"All right you gits! Back to work before I keelhaul all of you!" he yelled out rather fiercely. This startled you a bit. You hadn't noticed him act like that before. You shrugged it off and turned to Peter.
"Shall we?" you said, extending your hand. He came out of his trance and took your hand.
"Y-Yes. Lets" he said leading the way. "Come! I'll show you to the galley! We received a new cook recently." You followed him down the stairs into the galley.
"Oi! You there!" he said to someone who had his back turned. The man turned around and you got a better look at him. He was an older man with grey hair and a big belly. He looked familiar
"Gibbons?!?" you said aloud. He looked at you in shock.
"Lass! What are ye doin' here?" he asked shocked. Peter looked first at you and then at Gibbons.
"You two know each other?" he asked. You nodded.
"Yeah, we've met before." you said, still not believing who you were seeing in front of you.
"How did ye get here lass? I thought I told ye to be careful. Were ye kidnapped? Did they hurt ye?" he said moving closer to you in concern.
"I'm fine! Really. And no. No one hurt me, if anything I gave those pirated a good whooping." you said grinning impishly at him. He breathed a sigh of relief.
"That's good to know lass." he said smiling. Peter interrupted you two.
"Since you two know each other you will have no problem working together." You looked at Peter and cocked an eyebrow.
"Huh?" you asked.
"Well, you will also be helping with the dishes after each meal as well, miss." he explained.
'Great, I have to bust my hump while I'm on this floating crap hole?' You managed a smile to him.
"Ok, thanks for letting me know, hun." you said, giving him a wink. His cheeks started turning pink again.
'He's so cute when he blushes!' you thought. Peter cleared his throat.
"Well, shall I show you around some more?" he asked. You nodded and took his hand, waving at Gibbons. He led you through the rest of the ship, showing you the storage room, the room where every one slept on the ship and even the brig down below. The brig was damp and smelled like moldy fish. You hoped you wouldn't have to be sent there for any reason. He finally led you to your own room.
"Here we are miss, your own room." he said, opening a door to reveal a small room with a bed on the far wall, a small chest to the right and a mirror to the left. There was also a small round window above your bed.
"Wait. I get my own room?" you asked in shock. Peter looked up at you and smiled.
"Of course! My brother told me to make sure you had your own personal room. He said something about keeping you out of reach from the other crew members
I'm not sure what he meant by that exactly." he said.
'He's so cute and innocent still
.wait, brother?' you thought.
"Wait, your brother?" you asked a little confused.
"Yes. The captain is my older brother. But he bosses me around a lot, that wanker." he said, pouting. You giggled. In a way he reminded you of yourself when you were younger, when your brothers would tease you and pick on you. But they always loved you regardless
"Hey, consider yourself lucky you only have one brother to deal with. I have four." you said smiling down at him and patting his hat. He looked up at you in shock and surprise.
"Four?!? Don't you have any sisters?" he asked, almost not believing what you had said.
"Well, no. I have sister in-laws. But I didn't grow up with sisters if that's what your asking. And don't worry about your brother. He may boss you around but he loves you." you said, reassuring him. He looked down to the floor.
"Sometimes I'm not so sure.." his voice trailed off. You took his chin in your hands and turned his head to face you.
"Your brother loves you. Don't ever forget that." you said, looking into Peter eyes. His eyes dropped. You looked away from Peter and then back to him.
"Sometimes they just find it hard to show it, but deep down underneath all the hard" you poked his stomach, he giggled "tough exterior" you tickled his sides, he started to laugh "they really are sweet." you added, smiling at him. He looked at you and smiled.
"You really think so?" he said, a hopeful look in his eyes.
"I know so." you said. "You know Peter, you and I are pretty similar." He gave you a confused look.
"How so?" he asked
"Because were both the youngest among our siblings. But you know what?" you leaned in close to him and whispered.
"We can get away with so much more then our older brothers could." you said and gave him a wink. He giggled.
"Your right!" he said, standing up tall. "Well, I'll leave you be now. Feel free to walk around if you like, but remember. You'll have to get up early tomorrow to start your chores. Ian will come to wake you up in the morning." he said.
'Great, Mr. Perv again' you thought, but quickly shoved that thought out of your mind and smiled at Peter.
"Thanks. I'll see you around then." you said. He turned to head out the door, closing it as he left. You turned to get a better look at your new prison, er, room. It was small, yes, and the furniture was something to be desired. But hey! It was better then sleeping among the crew
or in the brig. You then quickly remembered something you wanted to ask Peter. You flung the door open and called out for him.
"Peter!" you called. He turned around at hearing your voice.
"Yes?" he said "What is it?" you motioned with your finger for him to come to you. When he got close you leaned in, almost embarrassed to ask him.
"Where do I go to the bathroom around here?" you asked. He looked at you confused.
"Bathroom? There is no washroom for the crew. Only the captain has a room for bathing but I'm sure he'd let a lady use his." he replied. You shook your head.
"No, that's not what I meant. I mean where do I go to, ya know, answer natures call?" you asked again, a slight blush forming on your cheeks. His eyes shot open.
"Oh! Forgive me." he said. He walked into your room and pointed to a bucket in one corner. You just looked at it, slightly disgusted.
right?" you said
'I have to use a freaking bucket?!? That's sooooo not gonna happen.' you thought to yourself.
"I'm afraid not. I realize its probably not what your use to miss but I'm afraid its all we have." he said. You nodded and he left. You closed the door after him.
I get a bucket instead of a porcelain toilet
I hate this already.' you said quietly to yourself. You looked out the window above your new bed, which was actually pretty ratty looking. The twilight hour was creeping by. You then remembered something you had to do. You got your phone out of your pocket and turned it on.
"I almost forgot to call Alfred." you said. You stopped just as you were about to call him. "What is he going to say once I tell him what's happened?"
